No one can predict the future of one’s life; but it’s easy to predict the future years of an obese chain-smoker. Today a radio trio reviewed ten things to increase life span. Most of the “researched” points have been covered in these blogs. What I found interesting was that the disc jockeys – one man and two women – glanced over the eat-healthy advice. Oh yeah, we should do that, they claimed. And they didn’t mention anything about fitness or obesity, which are topics apparently out of favor in American life. But, what caught my attention was that all three wanted to live a long life – they all wanted more years and no suffering at the end. This is what most Americans want.
An unhealthy, obese lifestyle will lead to heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. That is predictable. And, along with those diseases come suffering, medical treatments, drug therapy, and possibly months or years of dying. The life insurance industry feeds off this. They use fear of expensive nursing home care to frighten people into buying long-term care insurance. Read this report in the Wall Street Journal and decide if this insurance is right for you. For most, it is a waste of money. Especially for healthy, fit LifeNuts – those whose BMI is near 20 and whose aerobic capacity is high on the charts. They have a great chance living happily in old age, not cooped up in a nursing home full of sickly decrepit people. Want motivation? Want to change your lifestyle? Visit a nursing home with assisted living. Walk into the foyer, sit down, and observe for 30 minutes. Is this what you want?
The chances of LifeNuts being admitted to a long-term care facility are much less than the average and, even if they are admitted, their stay should be shorter than the average of 90 days. Most long-term care packages give benefits AFTER 90 days. Insurance companies know the stats, no?
Only about four percent of American seniors currently live in a nursing home. Don’t be one of them: join the LifeNuts revolution!
