The Essentials of a LifeNut Community

Participating resident – Each participating resident agrees to be measured annually in the following: waist circumference, weight, BMI, predicted lifespan, miles walked or run.
Participating employers – Keep track of number of employees participating and provide annual results of absenteeism and health care costs. Each involved employer can post a LifeNuts employer sign.
Participating restaurants – Offer at least two vegetarian meals. Each involved restaurant can post a LifeNuts restaurant sign.
Community classes – Offer at least five of the following – or similar – programs to residents: exercise (spinning, jazzercise, swimming, weight lifting, zumba, basketball), stretching (Pilates, yoga, tai chi), golf, tennis, social (bingo, bridge, craft making, painting, singing).
Community groups – Sponsor walking and running groups that meet at least once during the week and once on the weekend.
Community gardens – Specify days for all residents to plant, weed, and harvest community gardens.
Community measurments – Measure individuals before and one year after the program begins. Continue with annual measurements. Recognize those who become full-fledged LifeNuts.
